With advertisers moving more dollars to online video, Yahoo!’s Erin McPherson tells USA Today about our deep commitment to the space
When USA Today’s “Talking Tech” show interviewed Yahoo! VP and head of video Erin McPherson, they had one main question: What’s behind Yahoo!’s push to create original online programming?
McPherson had a simple answer. It’s part of Yahoo!’s focus on making the daily habits of our users more inspiring and entertaining, and entertainment is definitely one of their daily habits. “Online consumers love entertainment,” she said. “It’s clearly a core interest of theirs, so we’re going to serve it.”
By giving consumers what they want, we’re opening new opportunities for advertisers to reach them too. McPherson made that clear at the Digital Content NewFronts last April, when Yahoo! announced six new original shows and new content partnerships with ABC News, Conde Nast, and more. These moves “demonstrate how we’re building scale, reaching more audiences, and innovating with content,” she said. That content is made available to advertisers through 18 video channels aimed at target audiences.
Yahoo! is an industry leader in original Web programming, producing about 50 shows and streaming about 400 episodes a month. Check our programming guide for an overview of existing and upcoming shows, and get a deeper look through these video showcases and celebrity interviews.
