To grab your attention for the richest game show in history, our Ad of the Week pulls out all the stops and even throws digital dollars at you.
NBC premiered “The Million Second Quiz” on Monday, Sept. 9, and kicked off the unique 10-night event with a feature-packed rich media extravaganza on Yahoo.com. Touted as the richest game show in TV history, the ad underscores that point by having host Ryan Seacrest toss digital dollars right at your screen. It also uses video, social, and up-to-the-second data on who’s playing and winning to draw you into the contest and watch the show.
Here’s how it worked:
If it’s your first visit to Yahoo.com that day, the frequency-capped auto intro shows a brief rich media takeover featuring the dapper Seacrest throwing virtual greenbacks at you.
From there, the intro contains itself in the 300x250 unit on the right and continues playing for a few more seconds before settling into an image of Seacrest and a plug for the show’s starting time. The bottom of the unit features a horizontal "click for video" button. Clicking that button loops you through a 30-second spot featuring contestants matching wits inside a colorfully lit hourglass. (You have to see it to believe it.)
NBC’s video ad for “The Million Second Quiz” pulls you in with a very brief but compelling rich media intro that makes playing the full 30-second video virtually irresistible---and without compromising the live page content.
