Everyone wants to find the best price for a hotel room, but who wants to plod through a bunch of travel sites to do it? Kayak says it’s the only site travelers need to find a great place to stay while saving 25% or more. “Search one and done” was the theme of its recent interactive banner ad on Yahoo.com. It even included a virtual travel form that let you try out Kayak’s shopping skills right then and there.
If it was your first time visiting the homepage that day, the 970x250 billboard swung down with a quick and colorful animated intro accompanied by a woman’s voice introducing you to Kayak. Uninterested users could click the “X” at top right of the ad to close it down and bring up the live page content.
But if you were ready to start comparison shopping for a hotel room, the billboard was ready to help. It provided a handy form to input your desired destinations and travel dates. Hitting the “Find Hotels” button whisked you over to Kayak’s site, where it quickly searched through hundreds of travel sites to find the best price on the room you wanted.
The Kayak billboard ad isn’t just an ad you watch. It literally speaks to you and invites you to interact with it to get started on your next inexpensive vacation now.
