Infographic: Creating Mobile Content that Connects with Customers

By 2016, 50% of the U.S. population will use tablets and 80% will use smartphones. These insights into mobile users’ behavior will help marketers engage them more effectively.

One side effect of mobile’s rapid growth is that the habits and behavior of mobile users are continually evolving and challenging marketers to keep up.

With more than 70 million mobile and tablet users connecting to Yahoo! properties each month, we’re laser-focused on staying current with the wants and needs of mobile users, and sharing those findings with you. In that spirit, today’s infographic offers insights into mobile usage trends by time spent, industry, geography, and more.

Here are some highlights:

  • Desktop use is busiest in the morning and peaks at 10 a.m.; mobile usage is prevalent in the morning and the evening
  • Smartphones lead the way in average online order value at $97.39; tablets are second at $96.11 and desktops third at $91.86
  • Mobile doesn’t always mean on the go---in the U.S., 51% of mobile phone users open email at home, versus 22% on the move. (This is consistent with our findings on how frequently mobile users multitask with their devices at home.)
  • 97% of mobile users ages 18-29 use text messaging, versus 72% of users ages 50-64
