They say the holidays are too commercial, but without commercials would it really feel like the holidays?
When I was a kid, I always knew the holidays were fast approaching when the commercial for André Cold Duck appeared on our Georgian-styled, wooden Zenith console TV set and told us to "ring out the year." The commercial's tinkly tune was so pervasive that I'd find myself skipping home from school humming "ring-a-dingy-ding, ring-a-dingy-ding" to myself.
Well, the holidays are here and so, like a kid skipping home from school with a happy tune in his or her heart, we're looking forward to a week off ourselves. We'll be around with a new treat or two before the New Year, but mostly we'll be doing the unplugging thing between now and New Year's Day.
