Bill Maher’s Yahoo! Comedy Special Honored by International Academy of Web Television

Award for “CrazyStupidPolitics” honors Maher’s political satire and Yahoo!’s commitment to top-quality original video programming

Last Feb. 23, we kicked off the Yahoo! Comedy Channel with a bang---a live, original, Web-only, stand-up comedy performance called “Bill Maher: CrazyStupidPolitics.” We thought Maher, host of the top-rated HBO hit “Real Time,” was in fine satiric form, and hordes of online fans agreed. Yesterday, the International Academy of Web Television iced the cake by giving Maher’s show the award for “Best Live Event” in 2012 at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES 2013) in Las Vegas.

It’s a special honor, because voters are themselves Web content creators. More than 470 Web series vied for awards in 33 categories, and more than 10,000 votes from active academy members were cast.

We congratulate Bill on his award, and we take it as proof of our commitment to producing top-quality online programming that’s become a daily habit for millions of users around the world.  Yahoo! has long been an industry leader in original online video programs, which helps brands and marketers connect with their target audiences. And connect they do—Yahoo! original videos are watched by 35 million unique users a month (one in six online Americans), and we produce all top 10 and 22 of the top 25 most-watched original video programs.
