Editor's Note: Here’s another exciting installment of "Ask the Search Expert," where you can bring all your Search Engine Marketing questions, quandaries, doubts and dilemmas. Our crack Yahoo! Search Account Management team is here to listen and help. Below, one of our AMs answers a frequent search advertiser question.

Dear Search Expert:

My business account is getting quite large, especially with the holidays, and I need your advice on how to better manage it. I have an old version of Bing Ads Editor that I haven't updated in a while, and the user interface won’t let me make bulk changes quickly to multiple ads, keywords, targeting, and the like. Are there any tricks or best practices or tricks to help me do that?  Should I keep using it?  Please point me in the right direction.

Thanks a lot,
Anxious Search Manager

Answer:

Dear Anxious,

You can relax, because we have you covered. The new and improved Bing Ads Editor (BAE) is more intuitive, faster than ever, and is ready to help you manage your Bing Ads accounts from your desktop!

Our account support teams at Yahoo! love it and use it on a regular basis to make bulk changes to multiple components (campaigns, ad groups, keywords, and ads), perform uploads, and change targeting and budgeting options.  Here are some best practices to help you get the most bang from Bing Ads Editor:

1. Update the tool frequently

Make sure you have the latest version of BAE - We’re constantly improving the BAE with new features and enhancements so you should check on a regular basis for the latest version.

The easiest way to check for updates is through the Help link, located on the upper right hand side of BAE.

2. Ask for help from the wizards
Click on any component tab and you’ll be able to use the Multiple Changes wizard. This feature allows you to quickly make, create, edit and delete components. Verify if your spreadsheet headings are being imported correctly, and then review your import summary prior to syncing.

You can also use the Import Wizard to upload spreadsheets directly from Google and other sources. Our tool maps column headings to Bing Ads data fields.

3. Go on an advanced search
Use the BAE Advanced Search features to easily filter for errors, disapprovals, items pending review, negative conflicts and more.
You can also make bulk edits to campaigns and ad groups that meet your criteria. “Save a custom view” saves you time by allowing you to save recurring searches.

 4. Less is more

When working on large accounts, increase speed by downloading less than 1GB worth of data at a time or just certain campaigns instead of the whole account at once.

5. Flex those features:

The tool is full of many other helpful features, here are a few I use on a regular basis.

  • “Choose Columns” (available on each component tab) allows you to select or remove columns for easier management.
  •  Use “Download Statistics” on the main tool bar to quickly get performance data without having to run reports in the UI.
  • Use “Copy to Excel” (available on each component tab) and “Export” features to back up your account before syncing any important updates.

Are you ready to give it a try?  Download the latest Bing Ads Editor.
